Prior to the American Revolution, protection of the Thirteen Colonies was often up to the local citizens. Militias and other organizations were founded, including the secret society known as the Sons of Liberty. A formal underground organization, the Sons of Liberty fought British taxation with their motto “no taxation without representation,” and helped unify the Colonies against their overseas rulers. Members such as Samuel Adams, John Hancock and Paul Revere would answer the anonymous summons to the “Liberty Tree” for secret meetings. The group even gained fame for its inclusion in the 2015 Broadway blockbuster Hamilton in the song “Yorktown” when one of the actors sings, “I am runnin’ with the Sons of Liberty and I am lovin’ it!”

The Sons of Liberty are immortalized again on this breathtaking round struck in two ounces of highly-pure 99.9% silver. At 39 mm in diameter and measuring 6 mm in thickness, this hefty medal is the perfect canvas to honor the bravery of the Sons of Liberty. On the medal’s obverse is an original Son of Liberty, trusty musket in hand, kneeling before an early American flag waving in the background. The medal’s reverse features a stunning image of the Tree of Liberty that stood in Boston, Massachusetts near Boston Common and the inscription DEFENDING THE TREE OF LIBERTY. This magnificent piece is perfect for any patriotic collection!
