The main character, Beowulf, a young warrior, embarks on a journey to help a neighboring land with a monster. The monster, Grendel, who is said to be troll-like, has been attacking and devouring warriors while they sleep. Epic battle comences. Though the poem continues with more monsters and more slayings, it is best known for the battle between Beowulf and Grendel.
